It’s a brave and brilliant refocusing of Tricky energies, virtually a rebirth. Now signed to Tricky’s Sparrow Records, the title track from second album “Maxinquaye” leads Tricky’s back-to-school campaign. Since completing 1995’s ‘Strugglin”, Tricky fulfilled their contract with Sparrow Records and where under no obligation to release another album. I love this album so much, i’ve been crazy about Tricky ever.
Music of Feed Me is gentle, never overbearing. Tricky must have run out of lyrics on the next track Suffocated Love. Once you hear You Don’t, you will listen to it over and over. I can’t stop humming along Brand New You’re Retro. This is probably my favorite song on the album. There is exquisite mix of music in Abbaon Fat Track. I find myself hearing bits of Hell Is Around The Corner here and there throughout my waking hours. Pumpkin is a striking and quite long song. Black Steel is a song to savor, to listen to from every angle. It’s also one of those rare songs that touchingly comfort the listener. Tricky sings his heart out in Ponderosa.
