After seeing Le soleil est noir, I had to have a good Tri Yann cd. Since Tri Yann last CD (Inventaire 1970-1993) on Savoy Records back in 1993, I have felt a massive void in my life. It has been eight years Tri Yann’ last studio CD, “Inventaire 1970-1993″ which won Array Emmy Awards and was nominated for album of the year. I love this album so much, i’ve been crazy about Tri Yann ever.
Si mort a mors - My least favorite song on this album. La decouverte ou l’ignorance sets the tone for the entire album. Derobee de Guingamp pretty much defines how I feel spiritually. Tri Yann allows each song to breathe and flourish. Inventaire 1970-1993 couldn’t start better than with the up up-beat title track Princes qu’en mains tenez. This track is just fantastic from start to finish. Once Cad e sin don te sin gets in your head, it will NEVER leave. Les filles de Redon is the most memorable and exquisite. Les prisons de Nantes - Well, here we get a bit more meaning. Gwerz jorj Courtois is a romantic if not formulaic ditty. Within the first few notes of Le reel de Louis Marie it’s perfectly clear that Tri Yann is living this song. I came to like La jument de Michao. Song for ye, Jacobites - A catchy, upbeat tune. From the sound of it, I believe the song can be a big radio hit. La ville que j’ai tant aimee - This one is what it is: a powerful, primal invitation to love. Kan an kann - I just love it. Guerre, guerre, vente, vent is a very catchy tune. Music and lyrics of An distro euz a vro-zaoz creates, for me, fertile ground for daydreaming. Kerfank 1870 without a doubt is the standout song of Inventaire 1970-1993.
