This -song debut EP shows the promise that Tony Trischka has. Solo Banjo Works isn’t so much a record, as a great effort at dragging you into another world. two years ago, Tony Trischka briefly lived up to their terrific name, with an insanely addictive hit single called “Fourteen - Trischka, Tony”. This is what good Country should be.
Fourteen - Trischka, Tony - This one makes me want to not only sing along. First time I heard Liberec - Trischka, Tony was on radio driving in my car and sonically it just sounded amazing.I love the melodic melody of Free Improvision No 2 - Trischka, Tony and to this day it makes me feel good. Outside of the singles, my favorite song on Solo Banjo Works is Assunta - Trischka, Tony. Old Joe Clark/June Apple - Trischka, Tony is a strong cut, one of many. Max And Gus - Trischka, Tony is the amazing blend of moody yet optimistic tunes. This track is just fantastic from start to finish. Kingfisher’s Wing - Trischka, Tony - My least favorite song on this album. Nashville Skyline Rag/Ground Speed/Shucking The Corn - Trischka, Tony to me is the best you can get from Tony Trischka. Fort Monroe/Danville Days - Trischka, Tony - Well, here we get a bit more meaning. A fantastic track full of wonder. After few listenings I started to like I Feel Fine/Here And Everywhere/Eleanor Rigby/I’m A Loser/Baby You Can Drive My Car - Trischka, Tony more and more. This track, in particular, has the kind of undeniably catchy flavor. Simple and heartfelt closing track Green Willis/Whiskey Before Breakfast - Trischka, Tony closes Solo Banjo Works on a high note. Killer Bees Of Caffeine - Trischka, Tony has a fun tempo. I find myself hearing bits of Oma And Opa - Fleck, Bela here and there throughout my waking hours. Still going through Solo Banjo Works and coming to appreciate Solaris - Fleck, Bela more and more with every listen. Triplet Fever - Fleck, Bela defines beauty, yet is as unforgiving as an astringent stone. I think Bach Violin Partitain D Minor - Fleck, Bela is the best song Tony Trischka has ever done. In Did You Ever Meet Gary Owen Uncle Joe - Fleck, Bela you won’t find any flashy solos. Opening track Improv/Hilmi Rit/George And Gladys Kazatski - Fleck, Bela shows the best of Tony Trischka. Twisted Teen - Fleck, Bela is beautiful, yet underrated track. Au Lait - Fleck, Bela without a doubt is the standout song of Solo Banjo Works.
