Since completing 1991’s ‘Cornets’, Throbbing Gristle fulfilled their contract with EMI Records and where under no obligation to release another album. This disc has all of the essential Throbbing Gristle classics. Self-described as Experimental with lots of words, Throbbing Gristle comes out swinging on perhaps his best album to date. Cool, but I like their other actual stuff better like Heathen Earth.
The Old Man Smiled is pretty funky and mellow. In After Cease To Exist the music gets its power. Overall a nice softer song. Dreammachine is filled with very deep emotions that will truly touch your heart. This is probably my favorite song on the album. Don’t Do As You’re Told has a gorgeous instrumental sound, which lets Throbbing Gristle’s strong vocals come to the fore. Painless Childbirth is perhaps one of the best tracks of the past decade. Although I prefer the faster paced music, I think Adrenalin is my favorite song on Heathen Earth. Heathen Earth couldn’t start better than with the up up-beat title track Subhuman.
