On the France charts, superstar The Ventures’s career stalled before it left the starting gate. For older fans Greatest Hits will put a massive smile accross your face. six years ago, The Ventures briefly lived up to their terrific name, with an insanely addictive hit single called “Memphis”. I love this album so much, i’ve been crazy about The Ventures ever.
Memphis was the first single release from the album Greatest Hits. I like Rebel Rouser because it’s extremely catchy and has awesome drumming. Apache is the more seemingly obscure song on Greatest Hits that bear up best to repeated listening. Although I prefer the faster paced music, I think Bulldog is my favorite song on Greatest Hits. Pipeline - This happy song is an ode to optimism and an anthem. Telstar actually sounds so joyous, that you can practically see a smile on The Ventures’s face. Hawaii Five-O is possibly the best song The Ventures has come up. Tequila is really the reason why I recommend buying Greatest Hits. You have to get essence of the Wheels’s power, to truly understand this masterpiece. This track is a fabulous selection of easy listening, suitable for any age, taste or occasion. Greatest Hits couldn’t start better than with the up up-beat title track Slaughter On Tenth Avenue. Riders In The Sky is probably the most interesting track on Greatest Hits. Perfidia is one of the coolest songs The Ventures has ever recorded. In Let’s Go you won’t find any flashy solos. Green Onions - For me, this is the best of the album. Outside of the singles, my favorite song on Greatest Hits is Raunchy. I was truly moved when I heard House Of The Rising Sun. From the sound of it, I believe the song can be a big radio hit. Walk Don’t Run ‘64 is nothing but pure genius. Wipe Out is an upbeat song with a constant snare hit. Secret Agent Man is absolutely incredible. This track is clearly meant to showcase The Ventures’s vocal abilities. Only one song from Greatest Hits named Caravan really got me. Diamond Head sets the tone for the entire album. I loved Driving Guitars (Ventures Twist) the first time I heard it. First time I heard Sleepwalk was on radio driving in my car and sonically it just sounded amazing.
