Lead single “Sheila Liked The Rodeo” and “Ophelia” start with near-whispers before kicking into giddily catchy, fuzz box-driven hollered hooks. The Tear Garden’s debut, ‘Bouquet Of Black Orchids’, does not fit easily into one genre. On Bouquet Of Black Orchids album, The Tear Garden have renewed their membership in the ‘if it ain’t broke…’ school of songwriting. This is the best album I have heard in a long time
Ophelia - Okay, I just talked about depth. Tear Garden is a very catchy tune. My Thorny Thorny Crown is outstanding work of The Tear Garden. One of the more genuine-sounding songs is Romulus and Venus. It’s such an underrated song. The sound of Blobbo is difficult to describe, as it seems to squirm in a sensual manner, unlike anything ever created. Sybil The Spider Consumes Himself (4:26) - Oh, this is one of my favorites! The Tear Garden sings A Ship Named Despair in such a comforting, confident voice that you can’t help but be moved. The Center Bullet make listening to The Tear Garden like being in some sort of time warp. Album opener You and Me and Rainbows is a bright, upbeat ditty. This song stands out greatly from the others.
