This album has some very good songs like We Refuse and Orpheus. This is the first studio album from The Mekons since bad diagnosis in 1995. This compilation contains all of the biggest hits by The Mekons. Another great offering from The Mekons.
Orpheus - isn’t quite as powerful vocally, but has a beautiful melody. Demon Horns is a song that takes you on the journey before it reaches the conclusion. Music and lyrics of 2000AD Cannibal creates, for me, fertile ground for daydreaming. This song could easily nestle itself onto the world top playlists. German Cannibal / Golden Guitarist / You Still There? is a song that definitely grows on you and becomes an album favorite. Somewhere in This World is one of the more up-tempo songs on United. I loved Call Sign I the first time I heard it. Brian the Cannibal has a gorgeous instrumental sound, which lets The Mekons’s strong vocals come to the fore. Tiger Beer is a bit different from The Mekons stereotypical stuff. Music in Cannibal Highway is perfect as in all tracks of United. From Dark to Light - is a breath or fresh air compared to many previous songs of The Mekons. Wwy I is a very catchy tune. Awesome song is really all that you can say about it. Wwy 2 sets the tone for the entire album. Vito & the Mekons 50% Song is The Mekons’s best work in years. Such hits like The Lost Dance will leave you hooked. In Optimism / Nostalgia / Disease The Mekons is at his best. Animals Tonight? is a song to enjoy for years to come. Voice and instruments in Call Sign 2 complement each other. Some call Riot from United as a quiet invitation of an artist to sit and listen. All of songs on United and have something to say letting alone Requiem. The Mekons sings Jerusalem in such a comforting, confident voice that you can’t help but be moved.
