The Kelly Family’s debut, ‘Gold’, does not fit easily into one genre. Lead single “Greensleeves” and “Let My People Go” start with near-whispers before kicking into giddily catchy, fuzz box-driven hollered hooks. This disc has all of the essential The Kelly Family classics. Cool, but I like their other actual stuff better like Gold.
If you are a The Kelly Family fan, you will love Let My People Go. Let It Be hits the heart. Who’ll Come With Me is a romantic if not formulaic ditty. Mull Of Kentyre is the albums lead single as well as biggest hit. Auld Lang Syne is the funkiest number on the album. Es Waren Zwei Konigskinder is flawed, nonetheless pretty good song. Old McDonald one is one of the better boring ones. The Kelly Family is hitting on all cylinders in Take My Hand. The Kelly Family has astounded me with this amazing track. The Kelly Family sings his heart out in Hiroshima, I’m Sorry. Looking For Love is an upbeat song with a constant snare hit.
