I am not a real Celtic music type of person, but i have to admit ‘The Chieftains 10: Cotton-Eyed Joe’ really is amazing. There were many famous songs of The Chieftains available. Lead single “My Love Is in America” and “Cotton Eyed Joe” start with near-whispers before kicking into giddily catchy, fuzz box-driven hollered hooks. This is what good Celtic should be.
The sound of Cotton Eyed Joe is difficult to describe, as it seems to squirm in a sensual manner, unlike anything ever created. Garech’s Wedding is maybe the best thing the group’s ever done. After about the third Sir Arthur Shaen and Madam Cole listen through, I began to believe this song is The Chieftains’s essence. Master Crowley’s Reels is the albums biggest surprise. This is the most melodic ambitious and satisfying track in The Chieftains 10: Cotton-Eyed Joe. Faire (The Gold Ring) is a bit of a show-tune. Manx Music the elegant and beautiful song on the album is hard to describe. It’s such an underrated song. Music and lyrics of Christmas Reel creates, for me, fertile ground for daydreaming. I love the melodic melody of Salut a la Compagnie and to this day it makes me feel good.
