Since The Chieftains last CD (An Irish Evening: Live At The Grand Opera House, Belfast) on Capitol Records back in 1992, I have felt a massive void in my life. five years ago, The Chieftains briefly lived up to their terrific name, with an insanely addictive hit single called “North Americay”. Lead single “Opening Medley: Dochas/King Of Laois/Paddy’s Jig” and “North Americay” start with near-whispers before kicking into giddily catchy, fuzz box-driven hollered hooks. Enjoy the show.
North Americay on An Irish Evening: Live At The Grand Opera House, Belfast is solid and easy to listen to. The sound of Lilly Bolero/The White Cockade is difficult to describe, as it seems to squirm in a sensual manner, unlike anything ever created. This is probably my favorite song on the album. Red Is The Rose is one of the most beautiful songs ever to grace my stereo. The Chieftains sings his heart out in The Mason’s Apron. This song has very few things relative to that of it’s predecessor. Theme From ‘Tristan And Isolde’/Suisin Ban gets you up and jumping. This is one hell of a track. This track makes my mind whirl and vibrate with flowing energy. Vocals of The Chieftains in O Murchu’s Hornpipe/Sliabh Geal…/Wandering Minst really capture me and are set perfectly to the rhythm. The Chieftains is hitting on all cylinders in Damhsa. Rachamid A Bhean Bheag/Ford Econoline is worth the money.
