The Byrds’s debut, ‘Cruising Altitude’, does not fit easily into one genre. Cruising Altitude isn’t so much a record, as a great effort at dragging you into another world. Now signed to The Byrds’s Columbia Records, the title track from second album “Cruising Altitude” leads The Byrds’s back-to-school campaign. To me The Byrds is the best band ever.
Strong, powerful vocals of The Byrds in John Riley are very impressive. Roll Over Beethoven is a great song to contemplate the modern music and what it really is all about. After you’ve listened to So You Want To Be A Rock ‘N’ Roll Star, most everything else can’t hold up and is second rate. Have You Seen Her Face - To me, this is the best song on the Cruising Altitude. Within the first few notes of Time Between it’s perfectly clear that The Byrds is living this song. The first time I listened to It Happens Each Day I was struck by its perfect sound. Renaissance Fair is the best music that I have heard from anyone in any area of music. I loved Everybody’s Been Burned the first time I heard it. The Girl Wth No Name is beautiful, yet underrated track. Triad - I like this one. Lady Friend is amazing work of The Byrds. Old John Robertson is excellent and different song. Goin’ Back - I just love it. Draft Morning is just a great song and one well worth taking the time to give it a good listen. It’s very catchy and easy to get into which is what you want in a song. The song feels complete. Reputation is possibly the most mysterious and inexplicable track The Byrds ever produced. I like to sing along with You Ain’t Going Nowhere, though I mess up the lyrics sometimes. The Christian Life is astounding. I Am A Pilgrim is an underrated song: I like its lyrics and melody a lot. Pretty Boy Floyd is a song to enjoy for years to come. I like the agression and power of You Don’t Miss Your Water. It took me a little time but I ended up loving My Back Pages.
