Across the Great Divide (CD2) carries a very emotional theme throughout the album. After debuting at No. 1 last week, The Band’s album Across the Great Divide (CD2) falls to No. 2 with 558,000, a sales slide of 83%. Nowhere is this more so than on their re-working of The Band on ‘When I Paint My Masterpiece’. Another great offering from The Band.
The Moon Struck One is an upbeat song with a constant snare hit. Overall a nice softer song. After you’ve listened to The River Hymn, most everything else can’t hold up and is second rate. The Band rocks harder than ever with Don’t Do It. Caldonia Mission to me is the best you can get from The Band. The W.S. Walcott Medicine Show is sonically very melodic with nice haunting verses. This song may be the most meaningful. This Wheel’s On Fire is, without a doubt, my favorite song, ever. Strong percussion and poignant lyrics of this track really gets under your skin. I came to like Mystery Train. I have all of The Band’s tracks and Acadian Driftwood is probably the most his introspective effort. Ophelia is a catchy, up-tempo track that has influence of music streams without leaning too much in that direction. It Makes No Difference was the first single release from the album Across the Great Divide (CD2). Vocals of The Band in Livin’ In A Dream really capture me and are set perfectly to the rhythm. The Saga Of Pepote Rouge actually sounds so joyous, that you can practically see a smile on The Band’s face. It’s such an underrated song.
