Thom Yorke has compared writing for The Afghan Whigs’s new album to that on ‘Up in It’ - but has declared the lyrics will be even more terrifying. There is no doubt that The Afghan Whigs has talent. To me The Afghan Whigs is the best band ever.
So much energy, so exciting a sound.I like Hated because it’s extremely catchy and has awesome drumming. The sound in Southpaw is really warm and The Afghan Whigs’s signature voice is still very much present. Amphetamines and Coffee is sonically very melodic with nice haunting verses. Hey Cuz is a fine track on any terms. Still going through Up in It and coming to appreciate You My Flower more and more with every listen. This song stands out greatly from the others. I Know Your Little Secret marked the continuation of The Afghan Whigs in style evolution. This track is a great song that still never gets old. Simple and heartfelt closing track Sammy closes Up in It on a high note. In My Town is pretty funky and mellow. I Am the Sticks is the album’s biggest hit, I think.
