Self-described as Rock: Hard-Rock with lots of words, Steppenwolf comes out swinging on perhaps his best album to date. It’s a brave and brilliant refocusing of Steppenwolf energies, virtually a rebirth. There is no doubt that Steppenwolf has talent. Overall, I would highly recommend Born to Be Wild: A Retrospective (CD 1) CD.
I like Good Morning Little Schoolgirl because it’s extremely catchy and has awesome drumming. Sookie Sookie is one of the best records ever. I can’t stop humming along Everbody’s Next One. Born To Be Wild gives taste of what makes Steppenwolf special as a musician. This track is just a stunning masterpiece. Desperation without a doubt is the standout song of Born to Be Wild: A Retrospective (CD 1). The Pusher gets you up and jumping. The Ostrich is a nice, innocuous song, and much better than anything Steppenwolf released so far. Music of Don’t Step On The Grass, Sam is gentle, never overbearing. Charming song, great melody. Rock Me - For me, this is the best of the album. Jupiter’s Child - isn’t quite as powerful vocally, but has a beautiful melody. It’s Never Too Late is astounding and different song. One listen to the sheer beauty of Monster / Suicide / America was all I needed. Blew our minds when we first heard Move Over. In Hey Lawdy Mama the music gets its power.
