There is so much to love about Stanley Clarke, starting with incredible harmonies, songwriting chops and stellar stage presence. Stanley Clarke’s debut, ‘Passenger 57′, does not fit easily into one genre. After debuting at No. 1 last week, Stanley Clarke’s album Passenger 57 falls to No. 2 with 443,000, a sales slide of 72%. Cool, but I like their other actual stuff better like Passenger 57.
Lisa is one of the coolest songs Stanley Clarke has ever recorded. Cruisin’ is nothing but pure genius. Rane To Plane is such a exquisite and optimistic song that things can get just better. Stanley Clarke is one of artists that allow his songs like Fight to stand on their own and be heard. Skyjack catches attention immediately, What Is The Plan? is simple, dignified and effective, Stanley Clarke refusing to over-emote, and demonstrating that less is more. Just Lookin’ Good (Cutter’s Theme) is probably the highlight of the album. Big Fall is kind of track that compels you to skip back and drink it in one more time before moving on through Passenger 57. In Motorcycles it becomes nowhere more obvious that Stanley Clarke has yet to define own style. Have A Nice Flight is a song that takes you on the journey before it reaches the conclusion. Just Cruisin’ marked the continuation of Stanley Clarke in style evolution. Ferris Wheel - A classic Stanley Clarke track. ‘Let Me Tell Him’ is one of the best records ever. Tracking Rane is a strong cut, one of many. Chaos On The Tarmac is a fine track on any terms. It took me a little time but I ended up loving ‘Anything Wet’. Flight Fight is really the reason why I recommend buying Passenger 57.
