It’s natural for Stanley Clarke to take a stab at ‘You re Gonna Love It’ considering her long-professed love for 2 Unlimited. Stanley Clarke was a flawless and timeless record. Not surprising from Stanley Clarke and Duke Project Vol.2 together. Lead single “You re Gonna Love It” and “Try Me Baby” start with near-whispers before kicking into giddily catchy, fuzz box-driven hollered hooks. Duke Project Vol.2 is not something you should pass up.
When I listen to Try Me Baby in my car when traffic ain’t going so good. Trip You In Love has a gorgeous instrumental sound, which lets Stanley Clarke’s strong vocals come to the fore. Although I prefer the faster paced music, I think Put It On The Line is my favorite song on Duke Project Vol.2. The Good Times is one of these floating songs. One listen to the sheer beauty of Heroes was all I needed. Great Danes is possibly the most mysterious and inexplicable track Stanley Clarke ever produced. Some call Atlanta from Duke Project Vol.2 as a quiet invitation of an artist to sit and listen. Voice of Stanley Clarke in Every Reason To Smile is honest and guitar work is subtle and poignant.
