Since Sonny Terry last CD (51) on EMI Records back in 1995, I have felt a massive void in my life. After debuting at No. 1 last week, Sonny Terry’s album 51 falls to No. 2 with 617,000, a sales slide of 92%. While no new Sonny Terry album is in sight, the artist has been road testing new songs during 1995 tour in Asia. Whoopin The Blues and Riff and Harmonica Jump is really good.
Riff and Harmonica Jump one of the most beautiful songs i’ve ever heard. No Sonny Terry song has come close to capturing my attention as Custard Pie Blues did. Mad Man Blues is a fine track on any terms. It took me a little time but I ended up loving All Alone Blues. 51 couldn’t start better than with the up up-beat title track Dirty Mistreated, Dont You Know. Only one song from 51 named Early Morning Blues really got me.
