Lead single “Stand!” and “Don’t Call Me Nigger, Whitey” start with near-whispers before kicking into giddily catchy, fuzz box-driven hollered hooks. This nine-song debut EP shows the promise that Sly and the Family Stone has. IF YOU LIKE ALL Sly and the Family Stone’S SONG GO FOR IT! Lots of variety between tracks. My favorite is Don’t Call Me Nigger, Whitey
It’s a great pleasure to listen to Don’t Call Me Nigger, Whitey from the beginning to the end. You have to get essence of the I Want to Take You Higher’s power, to truly understand this masterpiece. This track is nearly perfect if not perfect. Sly and the Family Stone breathes new life into the music in Sing a Simple Song. Such hits like Everyday People will leave you hooked. Sex Machine is an upbeat song with a constant snare hit. You Can Make It If You Try is the album’s biggest hit, I think.
