Greatest Hits isn’t so much a record, as a great effort at dragging you into another world. Since completing 1990’s ‘I Want to Take You Higher’, Sly and the Family Stone fulfilled their contract with Capitol Records and where under no obligation to release another album. On the France charts, superstar Sly and the Family Stone’s career stalled before it left the starting gate. If you want to hear real funk, get this record now!
Everybody Is a Star is just simply stunning. Stand! to me is the best you can get from Sly and the Family Stone. Life has a gorgeous instrumental sound, which lets Sly and the Family Stone’s strong vocals come to the fore. Don’t judge Fun on the first listening. You Can Make It If You Try - a classic song. Dance to the Music is a gorgeous song and it grows on you. Everyday People - My least favorite song on this album. You can find feelings on this piece of art. M’Lady is nothing but pure genius. This song is like perfectly aged vintage bordeaux wine not a tequila shot. Sly and the Family Stone allows each song to breathe and flourish.
