Since completing 1991’s ‘Wednesday Morning, 3Am’, Simon and Garfunkel fulfilled their contract with SixSteps records and where under no obligation to release another album. The Definitive Simon and Garfunk carries a very emotional theme throughout the album. Lead single “Wednesday Morning, 3Am” and “The Sound Of Silence” start with near-whispers before kicking into giddily catchy, fuzz box-driven hollered hooks. I wish that “The Definitive Simon and Garfunk” album was instrumental.
The Sound Of Silence on The Definitive Simon and Garfunk is solid and easy to listen to. Homeward Bound is a nice, innocuous song, and much better than anything Simon and Garfunkel released so far. Musically Kathy’s Song is superior to other tracks in The Definitive Simon and Garfunk. Voice and instruments in I Am A Rock complement each other. I like For Emily, Whenever I May Find Her because it’s extremely catchy and has awesome drumming. Scarborough Fair-Canticle is cool song though, very addictive. The 59Th Bridge Street Song (Feelin’ Groovy) without a doubt is the standout song of The Definitive Simon and Garfunk. Song Seven O’clock News-Silent Night is actually a funny song. A Hazy Shade Of Winter - I like this one. This track is nearly perfect if not perfect. Simon and Garfunkel allows each song to breathe and flourish. Only one song from The Definitive Simon and Garfunk named America really got me. Awesome song is really all that you can say about it. Although Old Friends is very melodic it is far from sad. Excellent vocals and musical performances. Cecilia still maintains something of a specific flourish. The Boxer - This is a very lively song. Put Bridge Over Troubled Water into car stereo for your highway driving This track, in particular, has the kind of undeniably catchy flavor.
