Duellin’ Banjos isn’t so much a record, as a great effort at dragging you into another world. Richard Durrant had quite a long carriere and they made many hits. eight years ago, Richard Durrant briefly lived up to their terrific name, with an insanely addictive hit single called “Old Joe Clarke”. Great Folk right here!
Richard Durrant offers the kind of music here that makes you reflect on yourself. Bill Cheetham is astounding. Dance of the Welsh Vicar is a very catchy tune. When I listen to Stoney Creek in my car when traffic ain’t going so good. The song feels complete. Frosty Morning has to be one of the most beautiful tracks on the entire album. Music of Foggy Mountain Breakdown is gentle, never overbearing. Billy in the Low Ground is probably the highlight of the album. Wild Wood Flower - This one has a powerful beat and a good melody. Mason’s Apron - isn’t quite as powerful vocally, but has a beautiful melody. Salamanca is a medium tempo tune. Within the first few notes of Byrne’s Hornpipe it’s perfectly clear that Richard Durrant is living this song. The Nine Pionts of Roguery is the first taste of the new album. Strong, powerful vocals of Richard Durrant in The Star of Munster are very impressive. Charming song, great melody. Czardas make listening to Richard Durrant like being in some sort of time warp. Music in Down in the Swamp is perfect as in all tracks of Duellin’ Banjos. Speed the Plough marked the continuation of Richard Durrant in style evolution. Swing Low Sweet Chariot is a song you cannot help but think about at odd moments in your day.
