This disc has all of the essential Popa Chubby classics. Now signed to Popa Chubby’s Virgin Records, the title track from second album “Booty and the Beast” leads Popa Chubby’s back-to-school campaign. It’s a brave and brilliant refocusing of Popa Chubby energies, virtually a rebirth. Booty and the Beast is the best essence of Popa Chubby.
I like Looking Back because it’s extremely catchy and has awesome drumming. Outside of the singles, my favorite song on Booty and the Beast is Healing In Her Hands. Sweet Goddess Of Love And Beer is a striking and quite long song. Stoop Down Baby is the albums lead single as well as biggest hit. Trouble - I used to hate this song, but now it’s one of my favorites. Only one song from Booty and the Beast named Same Old Blues really got me. Anything You Want Me To Do is new, fresh, and hypnotizing. Low Down And Dirty is the albums biggest surprise. Popa Chubby sings Waitin’ For The Light in such a comforting, confident voice that you can’t help but be moved. Angel On My Shoulder is one of these floating songs. You Rub Me The Wrong Way - This is a very lively song. Secret Chubby has a gorgeous instrumental sound, which lets Popa Chubby’s strong vocals come to the fore. Lyrics of Sweat are precise and evocative. I find myself hearing bits of Chubby’s Goodnight here and there throughout my waking hours.
