Bun B. Hear has compared writing for Phil Coulter’s new album to that on ‘A Touch Of Tranquility’ - but has declared the lyrics will be even more terrifying. There is so much to love about Phil Coulter, starting with incredible harmonies, songwriting chops and stellar stage presence. Nowhere is this more so than on their re-working of Phil Coulter on ‘The Derry Air (Danny Boy)’. It is very deep stuff - very exciting
Some call Carrickfergus from A Touch Of Tranquility as a quiet invitation of an artist to sit and listen. The opening track The Meeting Of The Waters/The Rose Of Mooncoin is very much like you would expect from other albums. The song feels complete. Spancil Hill - is a breath or fresh air compared to many previous songs of Phil Coulter. The Green Glens Of Antrim - This is a very lively song. Phil Coulter sings his heart out in Raglan Road. One of the songs that always stick in my mind is The Mountains Of Mourne because the melody in the chorus is so good. I’ll Tell Me Ma is a marvelous sing-along. The Anniversary Song is a fine track on any terms. The Sally Gardens is a romantic if not formulaic ditty. The Water Is Wide is the amazing blend of moody yet optimistic tunes. The song The Spinning Wheel ending is my favorite… so catchy! The Fields Of Athenry - Phil Coulter first major hit. Dear Sarah is an upbeat song with a constant snare hit. I can’t stop humming along One Day At A Time. The Emigrant’s Letter/Eamon An Chnuic - arguably the best track on A Touch Of Tranquility album. This track is a great song that still never gets old.
