Mr. Bungle was a flawless and timeless record. Not surprising from Mr. Bungle and Covers (Live) together. one years ago, Mr. Bungle briefly lived up to their terrific name, with an insanely addictive hit single called “!My Name Is Not Merv Griffin”. Lead single “Glory Box (Portishead)” and “!My Name Is Not Merv Griffin” start with near-whispers before kicking into giddily catchy, fuzz box-driven hollered hooks. Smart music for smart people.
!My Name Is Not Merv Griffin - A catchy, upbeat tune. 24,000 Baci (Adriano Celentano) - arguably the best track on Covers (Live) album. 3rd Floor Dungeon (Frederick Hollander & Dr Seuss) is probably the most interesting track on Covers (Live). A Taste Of Honey (Herb Alpert & The Tijuana Brass) is one of those songs that will put you in a good mood. Ain’t Talkin’ ’bout Love (Van Halen) is another strong production from Mr. Bungle. Always Look On The Bright Side Of Life (Monty Python) one of the best in my collection. Around The World (The Red Hot Chili Peppers) is the albums lead single as well as biggest hit. I came to like Baby I Got Your Money (Ol’ Dirty Bastard). Bases Loaded (Nintendo) still maintains something of a specific flourish. When I listen to Begin The Beguine (Sammy Davis Jr) in my car when traffic ain’t going so good. There is exquisite mix of music in Bring The Noise (Public Enemy & Anthrax). Careless Whispers (Wham) (0:17) - awsome. Some of the arrangements found on Covers (Live) are surprisingly edgy. Citta Violenta (Ennio Morricone) is new, fresh, and hypnotizing. Cold War (Siege) hits the heart. Simply the finest work ever from this multi-talented singer. Mr. Bungle is one of artists that allow his songs like Der Zinker (Peter Thomas) to stand on their own and be heard. Mr. Bungle must have run out of lyrics on the next track Dirty Movies (Van Halen). Don’t Let The Sun Go Down On Me (Elton John) is the more seemingly obscure song on Covers (Live) that bear up best to repeated listening. The opening track Doo Wop (That Thing) (Lauren Hill) is very much like you would expect from other albums. Dr. Feelgood (Motley Crue) have really caught my ear and imagination. Mr. Bungle emotions are reflected through Drug Me (Dead Kennedys). Mr. Bungle sings Give It Away (The Red Hot Chili Peppers) in such a comforting, confident voice that you can’t help but be moved. I Don’t Need Society (D.R.I.) is possibly the best song Mr. Bungle has come up. This track is just fantastic from start to finish.
