This disc has all of the essential Moondog classics. After seeing Wind River Powwow (Arapa-Host - Arapa-Home - Arapa-Hope), I had to have a good Moondog cd. Elpmas is an amazing album, racked with beauty.Elpmas is not something you should pass up.
In Westward Ho! (Ship At Sea - Prairie Schooners On The Oregon Trail) the music gets its power. In Suite Equestria (Trail Versus Road and Rail) (The Horse - The Wheel - The Motor) it becomes nowhere more obvious that Moondog has yet to define own style. Marimba Mondo 1 - The Rain Forest is probably the most interesting track on Elpmas. Fujiyama 1 (instr.) is one of my favorite songs by Moondog. It’s also one of those rare songs that touchingly comfort the listener. Fujiyama 2 (Lovesong) defines beauty, yet is as unforgiving as an astringent stone. Awesome song is really all that you can say about it. Elpmas couldn’t start better than with the up up-beat title track The Message (A Capella Male Chorus). Lyrics of Introduction and Overtone Continuum are precise and evocative. Cosmic Meditation - I like this one.
