While no new Michael Nyman album is in sight, the artist has been road testing new songs during 1993 tour in Australia. This is the first studio album from Michael Nyman since bad diagnosis in 1993. For older fans The Piano will put a massive smile accross your face. The Piano is the best essence of Michael Nyman.
Big My Secret without a doubt is the standout song of The Piano. I like the idea behind A Wild and Distant Shore. The Heart Asks Pleasure First gives good insight into the truths. Here to There is a fine track on any terms. It took me a little time but I ended up loving The Promise. A Bed of Ferns is probably one of Michael Nyman’s biggest successes for the album - it’s lovely to listen to. The Fling - I used to hate this song, but now it’s one of my favorites. The Scent of Love has a beautifully haunting disco flavor. This song stands out greatly from the others. As always, Michael Nyman’s lyrics are worth listening to again and again. Lost and Found is the more seemingly obscure song on The Piano that bear up best to repeated listening. The Embrace - I just love it. I like to sing along with Little Impulse, though I mess up the lyrics sometimes. Vocals of Michael Nyman in The Sacrifice really capture me and are set perfectly to the rhythm. You can find feelings on this piece of art. The Wounded is a great song to contemplate the modern music and what it really is all about. All Imperfect Things is such a marvelous and optimistic song that things can get just better. Voice of Michael Nyman in Dreams of a Journey is honest and guitar work is subtle and poignant.
