thirteen years ago, Michael Nyman briefly lived up to their terrific name, with an insanely addictive hit single called “Alas, Poor Milan!”. Since Michael Nyman last CD (Noises, Sounds, and Sweet Airs) on Savoy Records back in 1995, I have felt a massive void in my life. There were many famous songs of Michael Nyman available. Noises, Sounds, and Sweet Airs touched my soul like nothing else.
Alas, Poor Milan! pretty much defines how I feel spiritually. Be’t To Fly, To Swim is simply exquisite. This Damned Witch Sycorax has a gorgeous instrumental sound, which lets Michael Nyman’s strong vocals come to the fore. The Fringed Curtains Of Thine Eye was the first single release from the album Noises, Sounds, and Sweet Airs. I hope to keep hearing Michael Nyman works for a long time to come. How Lush and Lusty The Grass is one of the best records ever. Michael Nyman has astounded me with this amazing track. Sometime Like Apes is the more seemingly obscure song on Noises, Sounds, and Sweet Airs that bear up best to repeated listening. This song stands out greatly from the others. ‘Tis A Custom In The Afternoon - Okay, I just talked about depth. In I Have Made You Mad Michael Nyman spins a tale you want to hear to the end. You Do Look, My Son, In A Moved Sort is a gorgeous sing-along. At Last I Left Them which is my favorite is a truly Michael Nyman sounding song. At This Hour Lie At My Mercy - This is a very lively song. Ye Elves catches attention immediately, Michael Nyman is hitting on all cylinders in Behold, Sir King. Sir, She Is Mortal the elegant and beautiful song on the album is hard to describe. Michael Nyman has created something that grabs you by the heart and gets you moving. The sound of Coragio, Bully-monster is difficult to describe, as it seems to squirm in a sensual manner, unlike anything ever created.
