Since Loudon Wainwright III last CD (Career Moves) on Columbia Records back in 1993, I have felt a massive void in my life. Nowhere is this more so than on their re-working of Loudon Wainwright III on ‘Road Ode’. Loudon Wainwright III had quite a long carriere and they made many hits. Such great and happy songs.
I’m Alright rocked my world when I popped it into my car stereo. You can find feelings on this piece of art. A unique and uplifting song. Westchester County is a good listen every once in a while. This track is a killer, it just grabs you instantly. Voice and instruments in Christmas Rap complement each other. This song may be the most meaningful. Thanksgiving to me is the best you can get from Loudon Wainwright III. A Fine Celtic Name is the most memorable and excellent. This song could easily nestle itself onto the world top playlists. Loudon Wainwright III must have run out of lyrics on the next track Some Balding Guys. The Swimming Song is probably one of Loudon Wainwright III’s biggest successes for the album - it’s lovely to listen to. Absence Makes The Heart Grow Fonder is another favourite of mine. I love the melodic melody of Happy Birthday Elvis and to this day it makes me feel good. Fabulous Songs is a exquisite sing-along. Although Unhappy Anniversary is very melodic it is far from sad. I’d Rather Be Lonely is astounding. This is probably my favorite song on the album. April Fool’s Day Morn is nothing but pure genius. Vocals of Loudon Wainwright III in The Man Who Couldn’t Cry really capture me and are set perfectly to the rhythm. This is one hell of a track. When I listen to Tip That Waitress in my car when traffic ain’t going so good. Career Moves is, without a doubt, my favorite song, ever.
