This eleven-song debut EP shows the promise that John Surman has. After debuting at No. 1 last week, John Surman’s album A Biography Of The Rev. Absalom Dawe falls to No. 2 with 820,000, a sales slide of 95%. Lead single “An Image” and “The Far Corners” start with near-whispers before kicking into giddily catchy, fuzz box-driven hollered hooks. Unappreciated gift to Jazz
The Far Corners is John Surman’s best work in years. Song Wayfarer is actually a funny song. This is the kind of song I think of when I think of John Surman. Three Aspects defines beauty, yet is as unforgiving as an astringent stone. This is probably my favorite song on the album. Druid’s Circle - is a breath or fresh air compared to many previous songs of John Surman. A Monastic Calling is beautiful, yet underrated track. Countless Journeys is the best music that I have heard from anyone in any area of music. This song stands out greatly from the others.
