Rare, Live and Classic is an amazing album, racked with beauty.There is so much to love about Joan Baez, starting with incredible harmonies, songwriting chops and stellar stage presence. Joan Baez is one of my favourite bands of all time.
El Preso Numero Nueve on Rare, Live and Classic is solid and easy to listen to. Overall a nice softer song. Ring Them Bells the elegant and beautiful song on the album is hard to describe. Here’s To You is just simply stunning. A Hard Rain’s A Gonna Fall - another great track from the Rare, Live and Classic album. So much energy, so exciting a sound.Charming song, great melody. Joan Baez offers the kind of music here that makes you reflect on yourself. |titile| is quite refreshing and sets the tone for what is going on in Rare, Live and Classic. Awesome song is really all that you can say about it. After about the third Honest Lullaby listen through, I began to believe this song is Joan Baez’s essence. Swing Low, Sweet Chariot (3:51) - Oh, this is one of my favorites! Jesse is probably the most interesting track on Rare, Live and Classic. This track, in particular, has the kind of undeniably catchy flavor. Blowin’ In The Wind is just a great song and one well worth taking the time to give it a good listen. This track is just a stunning masterpiece. Some of the arrangements found on Rare, Live and Classic are surprisingly edgy. Angel Band is the funkiest number on the album. There is exquisite mix of music in Johnny, I Hardly Knew Yeh. Joan Baez emotions are reflected through Love Song To A Stranger. After you’ve listened to In The Quiet Morning (For Janis Joplin), most everything else can’t hold up and is second rate. Hello In There very upbeat. |titile| is a sure sign of something most of us are experiencing, maturity. Joe Hill is a great opener for Rare, Live and Classic. This is one of those songs that musicians strive to write and create. Mama Tried is pretty funky and mellow. Still going through Rare, Live and Classic and coming to appreciate Sing Me Back Home more and more with every listen. This song could easily nestle itself onto the world top playlists. Opening track Long Black Veil shows the best of Joan Baez. This song is very powerful, its catchy melody will have you singing along in no time. I find myself hearing bits of Sweet Sir Galahad here and there throughout my waking hours. Catch The Wind is a song to enjoy for years to come. This song has very few things relative to that of it’s predecessor. The Swallow Song is possibly the best song Joan Baez has come up. Legend Of A Girl Child Linda is the first taste of the new album. One of the more genuine-sounding songs is Pack Up Your Sorrows. Colours - This one has a powerful beat and a good melody. The River In The Pines - This happy song is an ode to optimism and an anthem. There But For Fortune - Check out that bassline! Mama, You Been On My Mind is a song you cannot help but think about at odd moments in your day. We Shall Overcome is kind of track that compels you to skip back and drink it in one more time before moving on through Rare, Live and Classic. Simple and heartfelt closing track Go ‘Way From My Window closes Rare, Live and Classic on a high note. With God On Our Side is one of the best records ever. It’s very catchy and easy to get into which is what you want in a song. Voice of Joan Baez in What Have They Done To The Rain is honest and guitar work is subtle and poignant. Geordie is a excellent song and it grows on you. I now have Wagoner’s Lad as one of my personal favorites. Last Night I Had The Strangest Dream - I like this one. This track is a killer, it just grabs you instantly. House Of The Rising Sun is a song that will not reduce you to tears but leave you thinking long after Rare, Live and Classic have ended. John Riley motivates you to get up and do something to improve your life and the life of others. After few listenings I started to like Silver Dagger more and more. Within the first few notes of We Are Crossing Jordan River it’s perfectly clear that Joan Baez is living this song. John Hardy is cool song though, very addictive. Other tracks are good but your best bet is to stick with Auctioneer. The song feels complete. Careless Love is a romantic if not formulaic ditty. Joan Baez has created something that grabs you by the heart and gets you moving. Jimmy Brown is probably the highlight of the album.
