Since completing 1990’s ‘Like It Is, Like It Was (The Blues, Continued)’, James Brown fulfilled their contract with ForeFront Records and where under no obligation to release another album. After seeing Like It Is, Like It Was (The Blues, Continued), I had to have a good James Brown cd. This disc has all of the essential James Brown classics. This is my first James Brown Album and i must say i am blown away.
Wonder When You’re Coming Home (2:34) - awsome. Overall a nice softer song. Voice of James Brown in Radio Spot is honest and guitar work is subtle and poignant. In Talk to Me, Talk to Me it becomes nowhere more obvious that James Brown has yet to define own style. Further on Up the Road the elegant and beautiful song on the album is hard to describe. So much energy, so exciting a sound. The first time I listened to Like a Baby I was struck by its gorgeous sound. Lyrics of Honky Tonk (Parts 1 & 2) are precise and evocative. Need Your Love So Bad - A catchy, upbeat tune. The Things That I Used to Do is a song that takes you on the journey before it reaches the conclusion. Don’t Deceive Me (Please Don’t Go) has a beautifully haunting disco flavor.
