The Chess Box CD3 is an amazing album, racked with beauty. On The Chess Box CD3 album, Howlin’ Wolf have renewed their membership in the ‘if it ain’t broke…’ school of songwriting. IF YOU LIKE ALL Howlin’ Wolf’S SONG GO FOR IT! Oh yes, this album gets Array out of Array
This song stands out greatly from the others. I can’t stop humming along Built For Comfort. Love Me Darlin’ has a gorgeous instrumental sound, which lets Howlin’ Wolf’s strong vocals come to the fore. Killin’ Floor is a very catchy tune. This song may be the most meaningful. This track makes my mind whirl and vibrate with flowing energy. When I listen to I Walked From Dallas in my car when traffic ain’t going so good. Tell Me What I’ve Done gives taste of what makes Howlin’ Wolf special as a musician. Don’t Laugh At Me which is my favorite is a truly Howlin’ Wolf sounding song. Vocals of Howlin’ Wolf in Ooh Baby (Hold Me) really capture me and are set perfectly to the rhythm. New Crawlin’ King Snake is one of the best records ever. My Mind Is Ramblin’ sets the tone for the entire album. I like the agression and power of Commit A Crime. Dust My Broom (I Believe I’ll) catches attention immediately, I’m The Wolf (Acoustic) is the albums biggest surprise. Ain’t Goin’ Down That Dirt Road is a very good song maybe surprisingly better than you at first might’ve imagined. No Howlin’ Wolf song has come close to capturing my attention as Mary Sue did. Music and lyrics of Hard Luck creates, for me, fertile ground for daydreaming. The Red Rooster is maybe the best thing the group’s ever done. Moving - For me, this is the best of the album.
