Nowhere is this more so than on their re-working of Greg Brown on ‘Ballingall Hotel’. After seeing Ballingall Hotel, I had to have a good Greg Brown cd. The Poet Game isn’t so much a record, as a great effort at dragging you into another world. Overall, I would highly recommend The Poet Game CD.
I find myself hearing bits of Boomtown here and there throughout my waking hours. Brand New ‘64 Dodge - I like this one. It is succeeded by an outstanding track, however: Driftless, which shows, blatantly, how much Greg Brown has evolved as a singer. Greg Brown emotions are reflected through Here in the Going Going Gone. If you are a Greg Brown fan, you will love Jesus and Elvis. Once Lately gets in your head, it will NEVER leave. I have all of Greg Brown’s tracks and Lord, I Have Made You a Place in My Heart is probably the most his introspective effort. My New Book as a highlight of The Poet Game contains a ton of marvelous melodies. This track is a fabulous selection of easy listening, suitable for any age, taste or occasion. In Sadness it becomes nowhere more obvious that Greg Brown has yet to define own style. Poet Game marked the continuation of Greg Brown in style evolution.
