Since completing 1995’s ‘Just By Myself’, Greg Brown fulfilled their contract with Blue Note Records and where under no obligation to release another album. While no new Greg Brown album is in sight, the artist has been road testing new songs during 1995 tour in South America. This disc has all of the essential Greg Brown classics. Just By Myself and Billy From The Hills is really good.
Billy From The Hills is the first taste of the new album. Boomtown is another favourite of mine. Spring Wind is the albums biggest surprise. This track, in particular, has the kind of undeniably catchy flavor. You Drive Me Crazy is flawed, nonetheless pretty good song. In Canned Goods the music gets its power. I Don’t Want To Have A Nice Day is a great opener for The Live One. Brand New ‘64 Dodge is a striking and quite long song. Greg Brown offers the kind of music here that makes you reflect on yourself. One More Goodnight Kiss is, without a doubt, my favorite song, ever. Moondance is the albums biggest surprise.
