Gavin Bryars’s debut, ‘Cadman Requiem’, does not fit easily into one genre. It has been twelve years Gavin Bryars’ last studio CD, “Cadman Requiem” which won Array Emmy Awards and was nominated for album of the year. ‘Cadman Requiem’ kicks the album off with a blast of pure pop energy. Cadman Requiem is the best essence of Gavin Bryars.
I hope to keep hearing Gavin Bryars works for a long time to come. The opening track Cadman Requiem - Agnus Dei is very much like you would expect from other albums. This track is nearly perfect if not perfect. Opening track Cadman Requiem - In Paradisum shows the best of Gavin Bryars. Gavin Bryars sings his heart out in Adnan Songbook - Song I. Adnan Songbook - Song II is one of the more up-tempo songs on Cadman Requiem. Adnan Songbook - Song III is a romantic if not formulaic ditty. One of the more genuine-sounding songs is Adnan Songbook - Song IV. This song stands out greatly from the others. Adnan Songbook - Song VI - another great track from the Cadman Requiem album. This is one of those tracks that should not be judged after the first hearing. Adnan Songbook - Song VIII is one of these floating songs. |titile| is the kind of record that makes you remember why music can be so addictive.
