Teenager of the Year isn’t so much a record, as a great effort at dragging you into another world. There is no doubt that Frank Black has talent. On Teenager of the Year album, Frank Black have renewed their membership in the ‘if it ain’t broke…’ school of songwriting. This album is in perfect progression from Frank Black!
Thalassocracy is a strong cut, one of many. (I Want to Live on an) Abstract Plain is really a nice song to relax and listen too. This track is clearly meant to showcase Frank Black’s vocal abilities. You have to get essence of the Vanishing Spies’s power, to truly understand this masterpiece. Outside of the singles, my favorite song on Teenager of the Year is Speedy Marie. I hope to keep hearing Frank Black works for a long time to come. Sir Rockaby - another great track from the Teenager of the Year album. In Freedom Rock you won’t find any flashy solos. Don’t judge Two Reelers on the first listening. This song is dynamic and dramatic. It’s also one of those rare songs that touchingly comfort the listener. Fazer Eyes is possibly the best song Frank Black has come up. Teenager of the Year couldn’t start better than with the up up-beat title track I Could Stay Here Forever. When listening to Hostess With the Mostest, it gives me such an energy rush it’s unbelievable. Superabound is pretty funky and mellow. It’s a great pleasure to listen to Big Red from the beginning to the end. This song is like perfectly aged vintage bordeaux wine not a tequila shot. White Noise Maker - Okay, I just talked about depth. Pure Denizen of the Citizens Band is a great song for a cosy night in when it’s cold and wintry outside. Bad, Wicked World is worth the money. Pie in the Sky - This one is lively and fun.
