Since Folk - Various Artists last CD (Harvest Storm 1993) on Blue Note Records back in 1993, I have felt a massive void in my life. Nowhere is this more so than on their re-working of Folk - Various Artists on ‘Fionnghuala An (The Bothy Band)’. Self-described as Celtic with lots of words, Folk - Various Artists comes out swinging on perhaps his best album to date. Lots of variety between tracks. My favorite is Leppadumdowledum (Donal Lunny and Friends)
The first time I listened to Leppadumdowledum (Donal Lunny and Friends) I was struck by its exquisite sound. O’keefe’s , The Trip To The Cottage (Kevin Burke and Jackie Daly) is another strong production from Folk - Various Artists. I can’t stop playing Slipside (Stockton’s Wing). This song is like perfectly aged vintage bordeaux wine not a tequila shot. Easter Snow (Sean Og Potts With Manus Lunny) great lyrics, dark, deep, angry and cool.Declan (Donal Lunny and Friends) catches attention immediately, My Love Is In America , The Launching Of The Boats (Siobhan Peoples and Sean Potts) is an incredible song that has everything it needs to be another favorite track. Avondale (Stockton’s Wing) is excellent work of Folk - Various Artists. The Scholar Set (Paul Mcgrattan) is the song that really did it for me. Kiss The Maid Behind The Bar , Gan Anim , Mulqueen’s (Paul Mcgrattan and Siobhan People) is a romantic if not formulaic ditty. Martha, The Flower Of Sweet Strabane (Maighread Na Dhomhnaill) - This one makes me want to not only sing along. The Blackbird (Kevin Burke and Jackie Daly) is just a great song and one well worth taking the time to give it a good listen. This track is just fantastic from start to finish. This track makes my mind whirl and vibrate with flowing energy. This track is possibly the biggest guilty pleasure on Harvest Storm 1993. Music of No Worries (Stockton’s Wing) is gentle, never overbearing.
