Nowhere is this more so than on their re-working of Eric Tingstad on ‘Appalachia Calling’. While no new Eric Tingstad album is in sight, the artist has been road testing new songs during 1995 tour in South America. Lead single “Appalachia Calling” and “Monongahela” start with near-whispers before kicking into giddily catchy, fuzz box-driven hollered hooks. A Sense Of Place constantly brilliant.
Other tracks are good but your best bet is to stick with Monongahela. A Sense Of Place is a song to enjoy for years to come. Eric Tingstad has created something that grabs you by the heart and gets you moving. Magnolia is a song that takes you on the journey before it reaches the conclusion. Sovereign Of The Sea presents the perfect mix of instruments on A Sense Of Place. Castle By The Lough is a astounding song and it grows on you. Sissinghurst is a very catchy tune. American Blend is simple, dignified and effective, Eric Tingstad refusing to over-emote, and demonstrating that less is more. Musically The Craftsman is superior to other tracks in A Sense Of Place. In Moonlight Blue - A classic Eric Tingstad track.
