James Galway and the Chieftains is an amazing album, racked with beauty.’James Galway and the Chieftains’ kicks the album off with a blast of pure pop energy. Self-described as Folk with lots of words, En Irlande comes out swinging on perhaps his best album to date. Exciting stuff.
Roches Favourite is the best music that I have heard from anyone in any area of music. Once Give Me Your Hand gets in your head, it will NEVER leave. The Red Admiral Butterfly (Slip Jig) - Well, here we get a bit more meaning. When listening to Crowley’s Reel, it gives me such an energy rush it’s unbelievable. En Irlande sings The Humoured of Kilfenova; the Independant (Hornpipes) in such a comforting, confident voice that you can’t help but be moved. Avondale (Air) - Okay, I just talked about depth. Up and About (Kerry Slides) hits the heart. I love the melodic melody of Mac Allistrum’s March and to this day it makes me feel good. Madame Cole - My least favorite song on this album. In Sonny Brogan’s Mazurkas En Irlande is at his best. The Wild Geese - Check out that bassline! Carolans’s Concerto is beautiful, yet underrated track. A Fanfare is just simply stunning. This song is like perfectly aged vintage bordeaux wine not a tequila shot. The Dingle Set-Dance has a gorgeous instrumental sound, which lets En Irlande’s strong vocals come to the fore. Album opener The Wren in the Furze is a bright, upbeat ditty. This track, in particular, has the kind of undeniably catchy flavor. Brafferton Village / Walsh’s Hornpipe - For me, this is the best of the album.
