Since completing 1995’s ‘Another Mule Kickin’ In Your Stall’, Elvin Bishop fulfilled their contract with Sparrow Records and where under no obligation to release another album. Self-described as Blues with lots of words, Elvin Bishop comes out swinging on perhaps his best album to date. When you buy a Elvin Bishop album, you know exactly what you’re getting! Exciting stuff.
Simple and heartfelt closing track Fishin’ closes Ace in the Hole on a high note. From the sound of it, I believe the song can be a big radio hit. When I listen to Talkin’ Mood in my car when traffic ain’t going so good. Fooled Around And Fell In Love - For me, this is the best of the album. Opening track Driving Wheel shows the best of Elvin Bishop. Give Me Some Of That Money can be hardly overrated by any means; this is what Elvin Bishop is all about. Ace In The Hole is a song that definitely grows on you and becomes an album favorite. Party ‘Til The Cows Come Home is a good listen every once in a while. Think as a highlight of Ace in the Hole contains a ton of astounding melodies. Only one song from Ace in the Hole named Home Of The Blues really got me. This song is like perfectly aged vintage bordeaux wine not a tequila shot. Although Ain’t That Love is very melodic it is far from sad.
