It has been sixteen years Dowland, John’ last studio CD, “Awake Sweet Love” which won Array MTV Music Awards and was nominated for album of the year. sixteen years ago, Dowland, John briefly lived up to their terrific name, with an insanely addictive hit single called “Toss Not My Soul”. This compilation contains all of the biggest hits by Dowland, John. Unappreciated gift to Classical
Toss Not My Soul is perfect. Fine Knacks For Ladies is the albums lead single as well as biggest hit. Mourn, Day Is With Darkness Fled has to be one of the most beautiful tracks on the entire album. The sound of His Golden Locks is difficult to describe, as it seems to squirm in a sensual manner, unlike anything ever created. In Darkness Let Mee Dwell is probably the most interesting track on Awake Sweet Love. It’s a great pleasure to listen to Lachrimae from the beginning to the end. Dowland, John breathes new life into the music in What If I Never Speed. Awake, Sweet Love is worth the money. One of the songs that always stick in my mind is Away With Thee, Selfe Loving Lads because the melody in the chorus is so good. All Ye Who Love Or Fortune Hath Betray’d sets the tone for the entire album. This track is a great song that still never gets old. Weep You No More is a very good song maybe surprisingly better than you at first might’ve imagined. I Saw My Lady Weep is a medium tempo tune. Tarleton’s Riserrectione is a song you cannot help but think about at odd moments in your day. Time Stands Still is a strong cut, one of many. This track is clearly meant to showcase Dowland, John’s vocal abilities. Tell Me True Love as a highlight of Awake Sweet Love contains a ton of exquisite melodies. O Sweet Woods is one of the most beautiful songs ever to grace my stereo. Once The Lowest Trees Have Tops gets in your head, it will NEVER leave. Now, Oh Now I Needs Must Part can be hardly overrated by any means; this is what Dowland, John is all about.
