Self-described as Rock: Hard-Rock with lots of words, Dokken comes out swinging on perhaps his best album to date. Dokken’s debut, ‘One Live Night’, does not fit easily into one genre. Since Dokken last CD (One Live Night) on ForeFront Records back in 1995, I have felt a massive void in my life. Smart music for smart people.
Unchain The Night is perfect. In The Maze it becomes nowhere more obvious that Dokken has yet to define own style. Nothing Left To Say - My least favorite song on this album. From The Beginning is an underrated song: I like its lyrics and melody a lot. Tooth and Nail makes a person feel excellent. Just Got Lucky is simple, dignified and effective, Dokken refusing to over-emote, and demonstrating that less is more. I Will Remember (4:17) - awsome. I can’t stop humming along Alone Again. In My Dreams catches attention immediately, Nowhere Man is probably one of Dokken’s biggest successes for the album - it’s lovely to listen to. Some of the arrangements found on One Live Night are surprisingly edgy.
