Lead single “Out Of A Serpent’s Egg” and “Song Of Sophia” start with near-whispers before kicking into giddily catchy, fuzz box-driven hollered hooks. On Gothic Spleens album, Dead Can Dance have renewed their membership in the ‘if it ain’t broke…’ school of songwriting. Dead Can Dance was a flawless and timeless record. Not surprising from Dead Can Dance and Gothic Spleens together. Gothic Spleens is preety good and all the songs have a good meaning behind them.
Song Of Sophia is a song that definitely grows on you and becomes an album favorite. In this song fans will recognize the unique vocals of Dead Can Dance. Song Of The Sybil as well as many of songs is a short story in miniature. Spleens is a great song for a cosy night in when it’s cold and wintry outside. In Arabian Gothic it becomes nowhere more obvious that Dead Can Dance has yet to define own style. One of the songs that always stick in my mind is Cantara because the melody in the chorus is so good. Toward The Within (2:59) - Oh, this is one of my favorites! This song could easily nestle itself onto the world top playlists. End Of A Circle is a bit of a show-tune. Dead Can Dance rocks harder than ever with Sanvean. This song stands out greatly from the others. As The Bell Rings The Maypole is probably one of Dead Can Dance’s biggest successes for the album - it’s lovely to listen to.
