On Emblems CD2 - Mighty In Sorrow album, Current 93 have renewed their membership in the ‘if it ain’t broke…’ school of songwriting. Lead single “The Stair Song” and “She and I In Darkness We Lay and Lie” start with near-whispers before kicking into giddily catchy, fuzz box-driven hollered hooks. It’s natural for Current 93 to take a stab at ‘The Stair Song’ considering her long-professed love for Army of Lovers. Overall, I would highly recommend Emblems CD2 - Mighty In Sorrow CD.
She and I In Darkness We Lay and Lie is the albums biggest surprise. Maldoror Is Ded Ded Ded Ded is perfect. Hooves is one of the coolest songs Current 93 has ever recorded. Oh Coal Black Smith is a song to savor, to listen to from every angle. Get Emblems CD2 - Mighty In Sorrow and turn on The Signs and The Sighs Of Empireal if you are going to sip your wine late at night. Once you hear Broken Birds Fly, you will listen to it over and over. Earth Covers Earth had me crying as I was able to relate so well. The Return To Their Earth make listening to Current 93 like being in some sort of time warp. Silence As Christine - I used to hate this song, but now it’s one of my favorites. The opening track Anyway, People Die is very much like you would expect from other albums. The Descent Of Long Satan and Babylon marked the continuation of Current 93 in style evolution. In Our Lady Of Horsies Current 93 is at his best. In Sadness Sang - a classic song. The Sadness Of Things (excerpt) - arguably the best track on Emblems CD2 - Mighty In Sorrow album.
