On In My Time album, Charlie Musselwhite have renewed their membership in the ‘if it ain’t broke…’ school of songwriting. There is so much to love about Charlie Musselwhite, starting with incredible harmonies, songwriting chops and stellar stage presence. This -song debut EP shows the promise that Charlie Musselwhite has. In My Time is the best essence of Charlie Musselwhite.
I love the melodic melody of Brownsville Blues and to this day it makes me feel good. Ain’t It Time - A strong beat. Only one song from In My Time named The Big Boat really got me. Leaving Blues is a romantic if not formulaic ditty. I was truly moved when I heard When It Rains It Pours. This song is like perfectly aged vintage bordeaux wine not a tequila shot. If I Should Have Bad Luck which is my favorite is a truly Charlie Musselwhite sounding song. When listening to Watson’s Excellent Adventure, it gives me such an energy rush it’s unbelievable. Please Don’t Think I’m Nosy is just simply stunning. From the sound of it, I believe the song can be a big radio hit. Hear Me Talkin’ is probably the most interesting track on In My Time. Blues Who Do You Worry Me is flawed, nonetheless pretty good song. Movin’ and Groovin’ is cool song though, very addictive. In Revelation full palet of sound is used by Charlie Musselwhite to accentuate the presentation. Charlie Musselwhite offers the kind of music here that makes you reflect on yourself.
