On the Hungary charts, superstar Capercaillie and Carter Burwell’s career stalled before it left the starting gate. Capercaillie and Carter Burwell’s debut, ‘Rob Roy’, does not fit easily into one genre. Rob Roy isn’t so much a record, as a great effort at dragging you into another world. Overall, I would highly recommend Rob Roy CD.
Love And Death Suite can be hardly overrated by any means; this is what Capercaillie and Carter Burwell is all about. Born By Rapids - A catchy, upbeat tune. This is the most melodic ambitious and satisfying track in Rob Roy. Capercaillie and Carter Burwell breathes new life into the music in Rannoch Moor Suite. Theid Mi Dhachaigh is a great opener for Rob Roy. The beautiful sound of this track makes you want to close your eyes and sway away with the music. I like to sing along with Highland Justice, though I mess up the lyrics sometimes. Capercaillie and Carter Burwell allows each song to breathe and flourish. The Dispossessed one of the most beautiful songs i’ve ever heard. Honor Inflamed is beautiful, yet underrated track. Troops In The Mist is a bit of a show-tune. I find myself hearing bits of The Last Peaceful Night here and there throughout my waking hours. Ailein Duinn is nothing short of a modern masterpiece. This song could easily nestle itself onto the world top playlists. Blood Sport is the perfect blend of moody yet optimistic tunes. Procession For The Ill-Used is Capercaillie and Carter Burwell’s best work in years. Hard Earth is marvelous work of Capercaillie and Carter Burwell. Vocal harmonies in this track are great and song structure is just right. Home From The Hills defines beauty, yet is as unforgiving as an astringent stone.
