Now signed to Canadian brass’s EMI Records, the title track from second album “Brass on Broadway” leads Canadian brass’s back-to-school campaign. On Brass on Broadway album, Canadian brass have renewed their membership in the ‘if it ain’t broke…’ school of songwriting. Since Canadian brass last CD (Brass on Broadway) on EMI Records back in 1995, I have felt a massive void in my life. This is what good Easy Listening should be.
This track is clearly meant to showcase Canadian brass’s vocal abilities. Memory is one of the best records ever. It is succeeded by an outstanding track, however: Bye Bye Baby, which shows, blatantly, how much Canadian brass has evolved as a singer. Bess, You Is My Woman Now makes a person feel perfect. Strike up the Band is the funkiest number on the album. In a Sentimental Mood-It Don’t Mean a Thing If (It Ain’t Got That Swing…) - To me, this is the best song on the Brass on Broadway. It took me a little time but I ended up loving Sleigh Ride. Music of the Night (Phantom of the Opera) - Well, here we get a bit more meaning. Voice and instruments in Somewhere - West Side Story complement each other. Make our garden grow - This one is what it is: a powerful, primal invitation to love. As always, Canadian brass’s lyrics are worth listening to again and again. Entertainer Rag (Joplin) is a cool, simple song by Canadian brass at the top of his game. This song may be the most meaningful. I like to sing along with Girl with the Flaxen Hair - PrG‚lude for piano (Debussy), though I mess up the lyrics sometimes.
