After seeing Brooklyn Bridge, I had to have a good Burl Ives cd. ‘The Nashville Years, Vol. 2′ kicks the album off with a blast of pure pop energy. There were many famous songs of Burl Ives available. Smart music for smart people.
One of the songs that always stick in my mind is Poor Little Jimmie because the melody in the chorus is so good. Thumbin’ Johnny Brown the elegant and beautiful song on the album is hard to describe. Funny Way Of Laughin’ makes a person feel excellent. That’s All I Can Remember is nothing but pure genius. This song could easily nestle itself onto the world top playlists. Call Me Mr. In-between - is a breath or fresh air compared to many previous songs of Burl Ives. I Ain’t Comin’ Home Tonight can be hardly overrated by any means; this is what Burl Ives is all about. Lyrics of How Do You Fall Out Of Love are precise and evocative. In Foggy Old London - Check out that bassline! You have to get essence of the Mother Wouldn’t Do That’s power, to truly understand this masterpiece. Burl Ives must have run out of lyrics on the next track Bring Them In. Let The Lower Lights Be Burning is just a great song and one well worth taking the time to give it a good listen. There is exquisite mix of music in Beulah Land. Standing On The Promises actually sounds so joyous, that you can practically see a smile on Burl Ives’s face. Fairest Lord Jesus stands out to me for its audacious melody and sheer beauty. |titile| is quite refreshing and sets the tone for what is going on in The Nashville Years, Vol. 2. Sunshine In My Soul 1962 - A nice song. Blessed Assurance is probably the highlight of the album. Don’t judge Leaning On The Everlasting Arms on the first listening. Where He Leads Me is Burl Ives’s best work in years. Will There Be Any Stars is beautiful, yet underrated track. When They Ring Those Golden Bells is the albums biggest surprise. The Same Old Hurt is filled with very deep emotions that will truly touch your heart. Wishin’ She Was Here (Instead Of Me) - A strong beat. Vocals of Burl Ives in Busted really capture me and are set perfectly to the rhythm. Poor Boy In A Rich Man’s Town 1963 presents the amazing mix of instruments on The Nashville Years, Vol. 2.
