one years ago, Brownie Mcghee briefly lived up to their terrific name, with an insanely addictive hit single called “Rising Sun”. This album has some very good songs like Daisy and Rising Sun. Since Brownie Mcghee last CD (The Folkways Years (1945-1959)) on EMI Records back in 1991, I have felt a massive void in my life. Check it every song is worth the money for the The Folkways Years (1945-1959) CD!
From the sound of it, I believe the song can be a big radio hit. Musically Careless Love is superior to other tracks in The Folkways Years (1945-1959). Cholly Blues - This one is what it is: a powerful, primal invitation to love. Just A Dream - I like this one. Brownie Mcghee emotions are reflected through Pawn Shop Blues. After few listenings I started to like Hangman’s Blues more and more. I believe Living Witch The Blues is one of the most astounding, heartfelt songs ever written. Listening to ‘Fore Day Creep you can hear that Brownie Mcghee has still amazing chemistry with band members. The sound in Me and Sonny is really warm and Brownie Mcghee’s signature voice is still very much present. I like to sing along with Raise A Ruckus Tonight, though I mess up the lyrics sometimes. Betty and Dupree is probably the highlight of the album. Long Gone hits the heart. Grievin’ Hearted Blues is amazing song though, very addictive. I’m Gonna Tell God How You Treat Me is Brownie Mcghee’s best work in years. Within the first few notes of Can’t Help Myself it’s perfectly clear that Brownie Mcghee is living this song. Pallet On The Floor still maintains something of a specific flourish.
