Since completing 1993’s ‘I’m Coming Home’, Blues - Various Artists fulfilled their contract with Blue Note Records and where under no obligation to release another album. eleven years ago, Blues - Various Artists briefly lived up to their terrific name, with an insanely addictive hit single called “That’s Why I’m Gonna Leave You”. When you buy a Blues - Various Artists album, you know exactly what you’re getting! Oh yes, this album gets Array out of Array
That’s Why I’m Gonna Leave You - Okay, I just talked about depth. If you are a Blues - Various Artists fan, you will love How Many More Years. I can’t stop playing I Got It Where I Want It. I’m Not Your Clown is just a great song and one well worth taking the time to give it a good listen. “Smokestack” gives good insight into the truths. In I’ve Been Hurt the music gets its power. Excellent vocals and musical performances. Good Bye is an upbeat song with a constant snare hit. When listening to West Side Soul, it gives me such an energy rush it’s unbelievable. A Soul That’s Been Abused is a strong cut, one of many. Still going through H Sumlin - New Orleans Soul (cd2) and coming to appreciate How Can You Leave Me, Little Girl? more and more with every listen. Can’t Call You No More is marvelous work of Blues - Various Artists. Blue Guitar is simple, dignified and effective, Blues - Various Artists refusing to over-emote, and demonstrating that less is more. A great put together song. Living The Blues is maybe the best thing the group’s ever done.
